The Shiras was caught in a 90mph gale winds and broke free from her dock at Concrete Central Elevator, Buffalo s largest.  The Shiras navigating three right angle turns with out a soul onboard.  Then she crashed into another ship which in turn collided and collasped the Michigan Ave.  lift bridge, blocking in the fireboat Cotter.
Lake captains of this time were marveled that the Shiras navigated those bends in the Buffalo River unaided by tugs & crew.
